When summer started, I had no intention of getting off the grid.

It was one of those things that just… happened.

After a few days of not checking email, surfing social media, or obsessing over content creation, I noticed a mental shift.

Although I was aware of the science behind nature's calming effect on the mind – and even read Cal Newport’s “Digital Minimalism” a while back – I never actually tried a digital detox.

So, I did what any married dude with three kids would do in my situation:

I lived in the moment, embraced the opportunity, and kept the experiment going all summer.

Here are three of the biggest things I noticed:

Increase in Energy

Aside from the mental clarity and reduced anxiety that comes with being constantly bombarded with the daily woes of the world, I noticed a near-instant increase in my energy levels.

Most people are blissfully unaware of how much time they spend on their devices.

(Research shows it’s between 6 and 7 hours per day)

And while my own usage is slightly less (around the 4-hour mark) I still despise…
