At the height of the pandemic, I got bored and wrote a screenplay.

For shits and giggles, I decided to enter it into an online contest.

While I didn’t win, I did finish as a finalist.

I credit my 15 years of experience as a copywriter for my high placement.

Still, the process taught me a few things I didn’t know about what it takes to hook attention and keep readers interested in what you have to say.

And the experience made me an overall better marketer as a result.

1) Structure is Everything

Most Hollywood screenplays follow a 3-act structure.

The setup, the confrontation, and the resolution.

In simple terms:

Put a guy in a tree, throw rocks at him, get him out of the tree.
