Do You Have Writing Rust?
Here’s how to sharpen your creative blades.
A few days ago, a friend called and asked if I wanted to lace up my skates.
It’s been a few years since I’ve been on the ice, so I nervously agreed.
After a couple of minutes, I found my legs again and was zipping around the rink like the rest of the boys.
But, if I’m being honest, I wasn’t completely comfortable. My feet hurt, my stamina was lacking, and I took more than a few clumsy spills.
Once our friendly game of hockey was over, I came to the conclusion that skating is a lot like writing.
Sharpen your blades before you step on the ice.
Much like you need to sharpen the blades on your skates when they’ve been sitting in storage for a few years, you need to sharpen your mind before you sit down to write.
Some of my favourite ways to do this:
- Go for a short walk.
- Read a few articles or chapters of a book.
- Listen to inspirational podcasts or watch educational YouTube videos.
As long as you don’t get lost in the entertainment and use it as an excuse to procrastinate, you should be able to generate more than a few good…
