Earlier today, a member of my private community asked if his article headlines might be the reason for his slow growth.

He posted a screenshot of several headlines with his views and read data.

Normally, a lacklustre headline would be the first thing I’d suspect when an article isn’t getting views. But this particular situation was different.

And it could be the reason why you’re not attracting followers or newsletter subscribers.

The Curse of Knowledge

The curse of knowledge refers to the cognitive bias where someone who is knowledgeable about a topic finds it difficult to imagine what it’s like NOT to know that information.

This can lead to difficulties in communication because the knowledgeable person may unintentionally assume that others have the same level of understanding.

It isn’t that this particular community member was writing bad titles, it’s that I didn’t understand them.

I had no idea what was in it for me.

He used industry jargon that most people wouldn’t understand without knowing his niche.
